Steve Leslie comes from a distinguished line of successful songwriters. His father, Edgar Leslie, was a Tin Pan Alley lyricist who wrote songs for Al Jolson, Judy Garland, and Connie Francis, while Steve’s second-cousin, Don Gohman, wrote hits with many Hall of Fame songwriters including Oscar Hammerstein.
After receiving a music degree in Jazz Studies/Guitar, Steve moved to Nashville and landed his first publishing contract with EMI Music Publishing where he had songs recorded by Kenny Rogers, Mark Chesnutt, George Strait, Darryl Worley, Rhonda Vincent, Neal McCoy, Darius Rucker, and others. Steve received a Grammy Certificate for the title cut to Ricky Skaggs' 2004 Best Bluegrass Album of the Year, "Brand New Strings.”
